Gas Trader
What is the role?
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a gas portfolio by trading physical and hedge financial exposures for domestic gas, balancing our equity portfolio with third party sales and power plant obligations. This role will be the Commercial Trading Focal Point for Shell Energy Brazil's Commercial Gas Operations team. The role will also be required to support and optimize the physical gas transportation portfolio. Responsible for timely, accurate deal entry on all physical balancing transactions.
The role will also ensure proper settlement of all financial hedges to the physical portfolio.
As a Gas Trader, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Adhering to Shell’s Business Principles, market Regulations, and contributing to and maintaining a culture of Compliance
Trading Physical gas in Brazil in daily, balance of month, and prompt month markets
Manage a portfolio with financial exposures from physical trading of domestic gas
Collaboration with gas and power trading, operations, and sales/origination teams
Developing transportation strategy in line with defined risk, credit and contract parameters
Facilitating Customer transactions and assisting in customer management with the Sales and Origination team
Contributing to and ensuring alignment with Shell Energy Brazil and Shell Energy Americas’ overall goals and strategies
Interacting with other support functions in the organization such as Finance, Credit, Legal, Compliance, and Market Risk
Accurate deal entry, position management, and PnL delivery and reconciliation within the Shell Trading Network’s control framework
Knowledge of the developing Brazilian Domestic Gas market and an understanding of the fundamentals that drive it
Ability to learn a new framework and develop experience in gas nominations, gas imbalance management and related activities on natural gas pipelines
Developing trading strategies and working with other team members to develop a long-term trading strategy with a bottom-line focus on profitability
Collaboration with the financial trade group to understand exposure management of long dated derivative exposures that the trade book will carry
Requirements
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Business, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 6 – 8 (six to eight) years of experience in trading, banking, commodities, agribusiness industries or any related field
Knowledgeable in portfolio management for a book of commodities
Knowledge of Brazilian Natural Gas transportation systems
Understanding of energy physical commodity and derivatives markets
Fluency in both Portuguese and English is a must
Ability to interpret and form a trading view from supply and demand fundamentals
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, understanding of financial modeling
Leadership skills, decisiveness, respect for colleagues, and the ability to work as a part of team in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Extensive spreadsheet management skills (Excel)
Database management and programming skills are a benefit to this role
